So...the Last Airbender. It was pretty disjointed as they tried to fit in a whole series of the cartoon into 1hr 45mins, even though they had to miss out more than half of the plot...it suffered from under-development of characters and storyline, just cos they couldn't fit in everything relevant to make you care about them, resulting in an uninvolving film that left you slightly perplexed and somewhat cold about what actually happens to the good guys.
I recommend you go and watch the cartoon; it's worth investing more of your time in it, there's a brilliant, engaging and imaginative story already there. Which makes this film extraneous to requirement, except maybe as an advert to draw peeps to the cartoon series. Oh, this film was only the first series, by the way; there are going to be two sequels...
Thanks to Suley for introducing me to the cartoon :)

Dreams
06/08/10:
I had a wicked dream this morning, it was about two guys with jet-propelled snowboards with delta-wings like fighter planes.

LIKES : DISLIKES
Likes:
Rainbows, oxytocin, hugs, kisses, laughter (but not evil laughter), beauty, the smell of rain on warm concrete in the summer, Gok Wan, positivity, compliments, looking up at the sky and seeing a vast expanse of stars or clouds that terrifies and exhilarates me
Dislikes:
Interviews, pain, injustice, ignorance, arrogance, evil, job searching, when I'm peeling a banana and it splits on the other side of the stick at the top

Car drivers: I hate people
20/07/10: Soft-top purple Escort, driven by a lady, her sallow skin wizened before her years, overtaking me on the ring road.
05/08/10: Bright yellow VW Transporter with blacked-out windows riding my arse on the motorway. Back off, titface.

Beauty occurs in the most unlikely places
19/07/2010: I was driving down the split-level section of the M5 between Portishead and Clevedon. It was lashing down with rain but the clouds parted and in my rear-view mirror I saw a really strong rainbow arching over the motorway; it seemed to be following the contour of the land on which the road is constructed. It was stunning. I wish I could have captured it on camera, but going 70MPH kinda precludes that option...still, I've got that vivid memory in my mind, and that counts for more doesn't it? A memory is something that nothing can take away from you, except old age, disease and blunt force trauma.
02/08/2010: Running through the woods near my home; the early evening air was heavy with the scent of buddleia. Every ragged breath I drew smelled awesome; it almost seemed worth the trouble. Of course it was worth it; today was my first day back at work, and I've been sat in an anodyne call centre stuffing envelopes. I craved nature.

I'm hugely disappointed with Final Fantasy 13; it sucks. The gameplay is practically on rails, all it seems to consist of is plodding down one unbranching corridor after another, then fighting some things, then more bloody corridors. The fighting system is unnecessarily complex and confusing and the progression system way too linear. There are few choices to be made, which is what makes an RPG interesting and exciting - you make the game your own through the decisions you make and the path you take. The rule of diminishing returns is looming large...it's going back to Games Exchange tomorrow.

A Surprise in the Landscape
I found an entirely unexpected spot when I was running in the woods today; I found myself running through a grove of young birch trees, the ground had obviously been clear a few years ago but had now been abandoned. suddenly I was out in the open with the morning sun shining down on me and a series of terraces dropping down before me, each one fringed with saplings and bushes. The cutting stretched away to an opening in the hillside, where I could see the landscape rolling into the distance, the haze in the air barely hiding the coastline. It was an abandoned quarry, but to me it looked like a spot right out of WoW, as if it had been engineered to be an interesting landscape. Honestly, I was looking for jaggies.

Job hunt = depressing
Looking through New Scientist's job section. God, it's depressing I'm neither a manager nor an engineer, I don't have a degree in arboriculture and I can't help you with your acoustics testing. I wonder if Sainsbury's would like their shelves stacked in a sustainable and ecologically-friendly way? Sainbury's, of course; Asda is too rough, Tesco is nuts and Waitrose is full of sloany boys who clearly think physical labour is beneath them but pater cut of the trust fund.

manky apple
Ugh! MASSIVE necrotic spot in my apple, I hate that! More O2 circulation at the apple storage depot please Sainsburys!

Stinky
I will wash today. How's that for exercising self-respect? I'm still writing my dissertation, deadline in 5 days and I'm living the hermit lifestyle. I just don't see the point in washing if I'm not meeting anyone...then it all becomes clear when I go to bed and I'm too embarrassed to put my arm around Lee cos I stink too much! I guess I gotta love myself a little bit more :)

A fanfare of indifference
Hurrah, i started a blog. I don't expect anyone to care, but at least my thoughts will be easily transcribable when evidence is needed in court.
Why didi I buy weight watchers snacks? They seem to have introduced the naked crunchies to the concept of cream cheese n chive flavour, and let them work it out for themselves. There was enough built up on my fingers to get a proper taste by the end of the bag. Full-fat next time.
